At BLANKED KYOTO, you can use a full-featured handloom suitable for both children and adults to make a bookmark, omamori charm or sacoche bag.
No previous experience is required. Our staff guide you through each step, and you can take your finished piece home on the same day.

The experience uses cotton, acrylic, polyester and other yarns in different colours and textures. The material composition depends on the yarns you choose.

Omamori Charm

Weave a piece of fabric, have it finished as a small pouch and complete it with a knotted cord. An omamori is a Japanese protective charm.

Weave the largest piece of fabric offered in our three courses and have it finished as a small shoulder bag for everyday use. This course is offered twice a day, with the last session starting at 16:00.
A Quiet Moment of Weaving
Japan developed alongside its textile industries, but many people rarely have an opportunity to learn how everyday towels and clothing are made from individual threads.
Choose your yarns, sit at the loom and repeat the weaving movement row by row. Through plain weaving, the most fundamental weave structure, you can experience how fabric is created.
The quiet concentration of weaving can feel similar to the stillness associated with Zen.
