Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the questions we are asked most often about our hand weaving workshop. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to call us or message us on Instagram.
Joining the Experience
Q1. What is the minimum age? Do children need to be accompanied?
A1. Children aged 6 and above can join. Elementary school children and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Q2. Can I join the experience in English?
A2. Yes. Our staff can guide you in English, and we may also use translation tools for some explanations.
Q3. Do you support languages other than English, such as Chinese or Korean?
A3. Our staff speak Japanese and English. For other languages we are happy to guide you using translation software.
Q4. Can I join as a walk-in without a reservation?
A4. Walk-ins are welcome when we have space. We have 4 looms and take up to 4 guests per session, so we recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time.
Q5. Can companions who are not weaving stay with us?
A5. Yes. Each group may include up to 6 people in total, counting participants and companions together, with up to one companion for every two participants. Space depends on the day's bookings, so please contact us in advance.
Q6. Do you accept groups, school trips or corporate events?
A6. We are a small studio with a maximum of 4 participants per session. Groups of 5 or more are split across consecutive sessions. Up to one non-weaving companion is allowed per two participants. Please contact us by phone or Instagram to arrange dates and numbers.
Q7. Can people in the same session choose different courses?
A7. Yes. For example, one person can weave a bookmark while another makes an omamori charm.
Q8. Can I book as a gift or on behalf of someone else?
A8. Yes. Please let us know the participant's name when booking.
Booking and Cancellation
Q9. How far in advance do I need to book?
A9. Booking deadlines follow the policy of the platform you use (Viator, Klook or Jalan). Walk-ins are also possible when space is available.
Q10. Is there a cancellation fee?
A10. Cancellation is free until 20:00 on the day before your session, on every booking platform. After that, the platform's cancellation terms apply.
Q11. When should I arrive?
A11. Please arrive about 5 minutes before your start time.
On the Day
Q12. Can I join on a rainy day? Is it indoors?
A12. Yes. The workshop is entirely indoors, so weather is not a problem. We are 30 seconds from Exit 6 of Gion-Shijo Station, so you can reach us almost without getting wet.
Q13. Does the experience finish within the stated time?
A13. The stated duration is a guide. Depending on your weaving pace and the finishing process, it may take slightly longer. Please allow some extra time in your schedule.
Q14. What should I wear or bring? Will I get dirty?
A14. You can come empty-handed. There is no dyeing or messy step involved, so your everyday clothes are fine.
Q15. Can I take my finished piece home the same day? Even the sacoche bag?
A15. Yes. Bookmarks, omamori charms and sacoche bags can all be taken home on the same day.
Q16. Can I bring a suitcase or large luggage?
A16. Luggage up to standard carry-on size can be brought into the studio. If you have anything larger, please contact us in advance.
Q17. Can I take photos in the studio and during the experience?
A17. Photography is welcome. Our staff are also happy to take photos for you.
Payment, Access and Shopping
Q18. What payment methods do you accept?
A18. We accept cash, credit cards and QR code payments. Some payment methods, such as Japanese transit IC cards, cannot be used. If you have a specific method in mind, please contact us in advance.
Q19. Is the studio accessible by wheelchair or with a stroller?
A19. Our studio is on the second floor of the Gion Matsumoto Building and is reached by stairs only, as there is no elevator. Unfortunately, access by wheelchair or stroller is difficult. If stairs are a concern, please contact us in advance.
Q20. Which exit of Gion-Shijo Station is closest?
A20. Exit 6 of Gion-Shijo Station (Keihan Line) is the closest — about 30 seconds on foot.
Q21. Can I visit just to shop, without joining the workshop?
A21. Absolutely. No reservation is needed to browse and buy our gauze products during opening hours.
